Term 1, Week 1 - August 1-5, 2016

This term's Unit of Inquiry is How We Organize Ourselves and our Central Idea is Processes and Procedures Create Structures That Develop Order in Our World.  In addition to getting to know each other, we will begin exploring our lines of inquiry.

Process for understanding our number system (Math)
During our math time this week students will complete several IB inquiry activities and take the math pre-assessment.  Ms. Theisen will be co-teaching math with me twice each week -- we have a lot of fun AND challenging activities planned.

Processes for understanding reading and organizing writing (ELA)
This week students will begin working on building a reading community.  We will develop our procedures for when we read aloud and we will also start reviewing grammar rules.  By the end of the week we will begin reading The Giver and we will start working on using text evidence to support our explanations.

Procedures for classifying living things (Science)
This week students will begin to look at the purposes and procedures for classifying objects.

Processes for revising rights and responsibilities (Social Studies)
Today students collaborated with each other to create our classroom agreements.  On Tuesday we will discuss the differences and similarities between rights and responsibilities.  Later this week we will begin analyzing the Bill of Rights and the process for revising the U.S. Constitution.

We were quite productive today.
