Cold War assessment

The Cold War assessment is on Monday.  Today we went through our notes and students stapled their worksheets to their study guides.  I advised students to take home their notebooks since much of their work is there.

Monday, April 25th

This morning students took their last GMAS test and they continued working on their Exhibition projects.  Students will begin meeting with their mentors this week and start the research phase of their projects.

This week we are concluding our Cold War instruction.  Students learned about the Cuban Missile Crisis today and tomorrow we will cover the Vietnam War.  Towards the end of the week we will discuss how the Cold War came to an end.  I will distribute a study guide on Thursday and the test will be on Monday.

For parent reference, I've been posting extra materials in Edmodo for those students who want to extend their learning.  Not many students are taking advantage of this; however, if you would like for your child to access these readings, feel free to have them log into Edmodo so you can see them yourself.

Tuesday, April 19th

We began GMAS testing today and tomorrow students will take the final ELA test.  Instruction is continuing this week and students are working on their Exhibition projects.  In ELA we are continuing our reading of Son and in social studies we are learning about the Cold War.

This week's social studies homework is due on Friday and it includes social studies content we haven't covered yet.  Students were instructed on Monday to answer the ones they knew and to make their best guesses for the ones they didn't know.  I did this so students could have the basics before they take the social studies section of the GMAS test.  We will be covering the social studies content in-depth during the remainder of the term.

Here we are... we have made it to TERM 6!
During this term students will continue to learn social studies content (1945 to present) and they will work on their Exhibition projects.  Also, we are reading Son and hopefully we will finish it before the end of the school year. This is the 4th book in the series and students are doing a great job with understanding, analyzing, and discussing text.  Lastly, the Georgia Milestones test will be next week and MAP testing will follow.
