Monday, May 2nd

Students took their Cold War assessment today and those who completed the study guide were allowed to use it on the test.  This made a few individuals very happy! This week we are beginning our Civil Rights Movement unit and the test is scheduled for Wednesday, May 18th.  We are also continuing our reading of Son and students are practicing their literary analysis skills.

Our first Civil Rights reading, "Separate but Unequal", informed readers about Charles Hamilton Houston, the dean of  Thurgood Marshall's law school.  Before the reading they inquired into how change can happen and then came to the conclusion that all of the actions were supposed to change the laws.  In order to change the laws, according to the reading, you need people who are experts at the law.  I began the unit with this text because I knew that all students were familiar with who Thurgood Marshall was, but I wanted them to understand who helped paved the way. During this unit students will explore different perspectives and gain an understanding of how people have struggled to get our nation to live up to its own Constitution.

Students will be MAP testing this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:15am to 10:20am.  If you need to check out your child for an appointment, please try to do it after our testing time.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week!
