I hope that everyone had a
great winter break. It's hard to believe we are already two-thirds of the way through our school year! We had a productive end to our 4th
term and we have a lot to get done in term 5.
This term's Unit of Inquiry
is How the World Works and our Central Idea is: Changes
occur in our world that are within and outside of our control.
ELA - This term we are going to finish reading Messenger and
then start the last book in our literary series, Son. We will also
complete our second opinion writing unit and students will build upon the
skills they learned two terms ago.
Math - Students will be exploring addition and multiplication with
area and volume. Specifically, they will be inquiring into the concept of
volume, calculating volume, finding the area of rectangular figures, and
analyzing two-dimensional shapes.
Science - During the first week of this term we will be wrapping up the
unit from last term. We will review states of matter and
chemical/physical changes. I'll be assessing students on Friday and
they can use the quizlet
to study. Next week we will move on to learning about landforms and
forces that change the earth.
Social Studies - This unit students will be inquiring into World War II and
the Cold War. We will also begin our Civil Rights unit towards the end of
the term.
