We had an excellent first day. Students had Music with Mr. Brooks first and then they worked collaboratively to come up with our classroom agreements. We also reviewed the IB Learner Profile traits and students learned about the various classroom jobs. We concluded the day with a matching Learner Profile review and students identified the traits within a poem (Shel Silverstein's "The Bagpipe Who Didn't Say No"). During the last hour of the day I met with Ms. McFaddin's homeroom to introduce myself and Ms. Smith (my GSU student teacher). We concluded our time together with the poetry Learner Profile review.
Tomorrow we will wrap up some housekeeping issues by finalizing our classroom agreements, labeling our subject notebooks (Science, Math, ELA, & Social Studies),and storing personal items in our bins. After that I will begin ELA instruction with a review of main idea and text summarizing.
Lastly, please make sure school supplies are sent tomorrow. We will be using the composition books and it's very important that students are ready with these tomorrow so they don't fall behind. I will also take, and greatly appreciate, donations of composition books.
